 Welcome Back!!!

Seeing old friends, making new friends, getting school supplies, meeting new teachers, and receiving new schedules all are part of the excitement of a new school year. In the first few weeks, you will be bombarded with classroom procedures, forms to sign, and just learning the routine. If you need help, ask a teacher or a fellow student. You will get the hand of it.
No matter how last year ended, you can start this new school year with a positive attitude and goals to be successful in the classroom. Believe it or not, May will be here in the blink of an eye. Ask yourself, "Where do I want to be academically at the end of year?"

Work Hand and Stay Focused!!!

     Washington D.C. Trip Meeting

Forrest Middle School is offering an opportunity to tour Washington D.C., the week of spring break, March 15-19. This trip is offered to all middle school students and parents. If you are interested, there will be an initial meeting Tuesday August 26. This meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

    Middle School Incentive Program

Last year, the middle school teaching staff brainstormed ideas to reward students for high achievement, good behavior and perfect attendance. These are three areas that are going to be emphasized and rewarded throughout the year. Below you can read about the programs that are in place and the criteria for each.

    Recognition Assemblies

Every nine weeks, the middle school will have a recognition assembly to recognize students who have perfect attendance and those who qualify for the "A" or "B" Honor Roll. Parents are invited to attend.
  • To qualify for the "A" Honor Roll, a student must have a grade of 93 or higher in all subjects. (Straight A's)
  • To qualify for the "B" Honor Roll, a student must have a grade of 85 or higher in all subjects. (A's and B's)

  •  Perfect Attendfance Incentive

Perfect attendance will be defined as being at school everyday with the only exception for those participating in a Forrest School sponsored activity.

Every nine weeks at the recognition assembly, a name of a student with perfect attendance for that nine week period (one per grade level) will be drawn to win a $50.00 certificate.

On the last day of schook, May 26, 2010, the names of students who have perfect attendance for the entire year at the middle school grade levels will go into one pot. One name will be drawn to win a $150.00 gift certificate.

     Nine Weeks Exams

To raise the standards of achievement in our students, each academic area will give exams covering skills and information taught during the nine weeks. These exams will be developed by the academic departments and will be worth 10% of the student's nine weeks grade. Each student will be given a review packet to prepare for these exams.

A student can earn an exemption from this test by having an average of 93 or higher.

A student earning exemptions in all five academic subject areas will receive a half-day dismissal to be used on one of the three days designated for nine weeks exam each for that nine weeks.

    ABC Reward Activity

    Achievement, Behavior, Character

Every nine weeks students will be given the opportunity to participate in a reward activity based on the following criteria:

  • Passing grades
  • No ISS/No Detention
  • Less than 3 demerits (all classes)
  • No zeros
  • The ABC Reward Activity will take place directly after the nine week recognition assembly.

Our goal is to help every child have a positive learning experience. Hopefully with these incentives, each student will have opportunities to benefit from his or her hard work and positive behavior.
